Selection Process

The selection for UPTET consists of a written examination (Paper I for primary level, Paper II for junior level). Candidates must score the minimum qualifying marks (generally 60% for General category, 55% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD) to be considered eligible. The final merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the respective paper. There is no interview; the TET certificate is valid for lifetime (as per current NCTE guidelines) for applying to teacher vacancies.

Who Should Apply and Who Should Not

Ideal candidates: Graduates who have completed or are in the final year of a recognized teacher training program (D.El.Ed, B.Ed, BTC) and wish to secure a government teaching job in Uttar Pradesh. Candidates who are confident about meeting the minimum qualifying marks and can dedicate time for focused preparation should apply.

Candidates who may reconsider: Those who have not yet completed any teacher training qualification and are relying solely on a graduation degree without the required pedagogy certificate; also candidates who are unable to appear for the exam due to work commitments and cannot allocate time for preparation.

Common Mistakes Candidates Make

  • Ignoring the correction window and submitting incorrect details (e.g., wrong spelling of name, mismatched photo dimensions) that later lead to rejection.
  • Assuming that the TET certificate guarantees a job; forgetting that qualifying only makes them eligible to apply for vacancies released by various school boards.
  • Paying the fee via offline challan when the portal only accepts online payment, causing payment failure and missing the deadline.
  • Not downloading the admit card immediately after release and relying on SMS/email, which sometimes gets delayed.
